The Classic Tracks

Color Grey's quintessential album, Requiem, was recorded in the summer of 2002. Bryan Geiger on bass, James McNamara on piano, Dan Vellucci on drums and Hilary Finucane on marimba recorded the tracks in one marathon session at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The songs, a mixture of classical preludes with modern beats, were composed by James over the last few years of high school and first year of college. Bryan manned all of the recording duties, producing and engineering the album while also playing bass. Dan's musical and nuanced drumming provided the album's backbone, while Hillary on marimba created the perfect atmosphere.

The Early Years

The Color Grey formed in August of 1998. Future high school sophomores James McNamara, Bryan Geiger, and Dan Vellucci played percussion in Wilde Lake High Schoo'sl wind ensemble and marching band. During marching band practice off-hours, James played for Dan at the piano a short operatic tune with a mild Spanish flavor. Dan laid down a beat. Later in Dan's basement Bryan joined in on bass, and The Color Grey was born. Here follows a sampling of some of those early basement recordings.
